Chinese, French FMs discuss situation in Iraq

Baghdad (AIN)- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held on Friday a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Laurent Fabius to exchange views on the situation in Iraq.

China supports the efforts made by Iraq’s new government to maintain domestic stability and combat terrorism, said Wang, who is currently accompanying Chinese President Xi Jinping on his Central and Southern Asia trip.

The minister urged the international community to make concerted efforts to counter the threats posed by terrorism.

Relevant moves, he said, should be made in accordance with the UN charter and the basic norms of international relations.

Iraq is witnessing a worsening security condition that began in June when armed religious radicals, spearheaded by an al-Qaida splinter group known as the Islamic State (IS), launched a surprise offensive that led to the debacle of Iraqi security forces and the loss of a large part of the country’s northern and western territories.

Thousands of Iraqi people, mainly from minority communities, have been forced to flee their homes.

THE RV IS SET TO BE ANNOUNCED LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON?

Poppy3:   IN CASE ANYONE WOULD LIKE SOME DINAR NEWS I WAS JUST CONTACTED AND TOLD BY AN INTERNATIONAL PERSONAL BANKER THAT HE WAS TOLD THE RV IS SET TO BE ANNOUNCED TUESDAY AFTERNOON LATE AND WE SHOULD SEE IT INTERNATIONALLY BY WED.

Iraq is on track

Mnt Goat:   Iraq is still very much on track to see the final group of ministers get voted on this coming Tuesday 9/16. The controversial Defense and Interior ministers along with the other couple ministers should all be seated at this time. After this is completed we will see what impact this has on the RV process. We are still being told they do plan to finally roll out the revalued rate to the international community at this time. I have strong evidence that there was a planned timeline this week to RV their currency but there was a hold on it due to the lack of mainly a permanent defense minister being seated. Seems they do need this “fully” formed government in reality and not just an announcement.

However if this RV does not happen with days if not hours after these final ministers are seated do not get disappointed. It may only be that they are still requiring more security to be put in place to protect Iraqi borders and provinces. There may also be an issue of implementation of many of the delayed economic reforms. It is all looking very good.

Military advisors to Iraq may be deployed by Australia

The Australian Government is considering deploying soldiers to Iraq to help train and advise the Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting the Islamic State (IS) militants in the country.

Prime minister of Australia, Tony Abbott said, “We are continuing to talk to our partners and allies about how Australia might be able to contribute, whether we should help with some air capability, whether we should help with some military advisers.”

The Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop also indicated that the country was prepared to expand its military role in Iraq, to include possible air strikes.

Bishop remarked, “Ideally it would be best for Iraqi security forces to defend the country against the murderous advance of terrorists, but there’s an anticipated role for some countries to provide trainers and advisers.

“Australia hasn’t had a specific request so we’ll consider any request once it’s received, weigh the risks, and assess what role we can play.”

If a request is made by the US, Australia could deploy F/A-18 Super Hornet strike fighters to support the multi-national air campaign against the IS militants, and some elite special forces as advisers.

“Australia hasn’t had a specific request so we’ll consider any request once it’s received, weigh the risks, and assess what role we can play.”

Additional assets that might be offered by Australia include KC30A refueling aircraft, AP-3C Orion, C-130 and C-17 transport aircraft, as well as Boeing 737 airborne early warning and control aircraft.

The Australian C-130 Super Hercules aircraft have already delivered humanitarian aid and weapons to Kurdish forces in northern Iraq as part of a multi-national effort. On 10 September, US President Brack Obama is expected to outline his strategy to combat IS militants in Iraq and Syria, and is likely to seek help from allies, including Australia.

In a related development, the Canadian Department of National Defence has deployed several dozen members of the Canadian Armed Forces to Iraq to initially advise Iraqi forces for a period of up to 30 days.

Prime minister of Canada, Stephen Harper mentioned, “The deployment of members of the Canadian Armed Forces is a concrete measure to deter the murderous rampage of ISIL and respond to the humanitarian crisis it has caused.”
