The Iraqi Government optimistic exit from Chapter VII

The Iraqi Government expressed optimism the country’s exit from Chapter 7, which restricts the disposition of funds. Confirmed Prime Minister’s media adviser Ali al-Musawi told Al Hayat that “Iraq has implemented the terms of his exit from Chapter VII, and soon we shall be concluding from that stage.” He explained that “this chapter’s campus from acting without immunity or earnings, because of the invasion of Kuwait.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on the Security Council to remove Iraq from Chapter VII, and put an end to punish him. Turning to negotiations between Baghdad and Kuwait, he said the two countries reached “a good level of confidence and opened a new chapter in their relations.”  And asked the Council to “end the threat of sanctions or the use of force that the Council discusses this topic next week.” Iraq and Kuwait have taken in recent months, many measures to settle their differences over general aviation companies and restoration of monuments.

In a letter to the United Nations endorsed Foreign Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Secretary-General’s proposal. He acknowledged that the issue of Kuwaiti missing persons «still hurts families», but stressed that the Iraqi Government had made “a commendable effort to address them.

He added: “If the Council adopted recommendations, Iraq will not be covered by Chapter VII related to this file, and will be a further step towards restoring international stature.” And further: “the Security Council recommended that the controversial issue of humanitarian Iraq and Kuwait only to chapter VI of the Charter of the international organization”. And the Security Council is expected to decide the issue later this month.
